Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix – #AlbumDiscovery

Last Phoenix album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix was released on May 29th 2009. They first decided to make the track “1901” downloadable for free.

In a few weeks, the track hit the charts and the band also. This strategy has been decided with the Label “Loyauté”. Since then, they’re going from TV show to TV show in the US but still are rejected from France. The band has always have a lack of approbation in France.
But I really love the sound and color of their last album. Here is the live concert they did on Taratata, that I watched on TV.

Girbig #ArtistDiscovery

Girbig is a french pop & folk band that I discovered on Noomiz. I really love their world and think they are very talented. Check out their video clip of their song “Daddy it’s on me”

Birdy Nam Nam #ArtistDiscovery

Birdy Nam Nam is a French electro band with 4 Dj’s. They won the 2002 DMC Championship. I find it incredible the way they use the vinyl as a real instrument. This is called Turntablism.

I like the Hip Hop, Jazz and Funk influences in their songs. If music should be a live experience, I think they do it perfectly, mixing some acoustic version of their songs with bands on stage. Glad that they won a “Victoire de la musique” in 2010 against D.Guetta, Air and Wax Taylor. Here is the live version of “Love your Ennemy (Kill your Friend)”

Chris Pureka #ArtistDiscovery

Chris Pureka is an American acoustic singer songwriter. She tells you beautiful stories through her lyrics, and if the melancholy has a sound, she definitely found the right color of it: full of emotion and hope at the same time. I particularly love this song, entitled Swann Song:

“A New England folkie with a parched, wounded voice and a mean way with an acoustic guitar, Pureka makes romantic depression seem, somehow, invigorating” – LA Daily News.
